Sudarshana - The Poem & Translation

সুদর্শনা 

- জীবনানন্দ দাশ 

একদিন ম্লান হেসে আমি 
তোমার মতন এক মহিলার কাছে 
যুগের সঞ্চিত পণ্যে লীন হতে গিয়ে 
অগ্নিপরিধির মাঝে সহসা দাঁড়িয়ে 
শুনেছি কিন্নরকন্ঠ দেবদারু গাছে, 
দেখেছ অমৃতসূর্য আছে। 

সবচেয়ে আকাশ নক্ষত্র ঘাস চন্দ্রমল্লিকার রাত্রি ভালো,ত 
তবুও সময় স্থির নয়, 
আরেক গভীরতর শেষ রূপ চেয়ে 
দেখেছে সে তোমার বলয়। 

এই পৃথিবীর ভালো পরিচিত রোদের মতন 
তোমার শরীর; তুমি দান করো নি তো; 
সময় তোমাকে সব দান করে মৃতদার ব’লে 
সুদর্শনা, তুমি আজ মৃত।

Translation

With a sad smile once, I 
stood besides a lady alike 
you, while merging with assets and savings of eons 
standing suddenly amidst ambit of fire 
I heard voice of Centaur on a Himalayan cedar 
I saw eternal Sun and its afterlife.

Skies, stars, grass, nights of Chrysanthemum are the best 
Still time is not still; 
Calling for another deeper final cast 
Has witnessed your circle (aura).

Alike a soothing sunshine of this world 
is your form; didn't you gift it to anyone?; 
Time gifts all to you as if a widower 
My beautiful; you are today no more.
