সন্ধ্যা হয়- চারিদিকে 

জীবনানন্দ দাশ 

সন্ধ্যা হয়- চারিদিকে শান্ত নীরবতা, 

খড় মুখ নিয়ে এক শালিখ যেতেছে উড়ে চুপে; 

গোরুর গাড়িটী যায় মেঠো পথ বেয়ে ধীরে-ধীরে; 

আঙিনা ভরিয়া আছে সোনালি খড়ের ঘন স্তূপে; 

পৃথিবীর সব ঘুঘু ডাকিতেছে হিজলের বনে; 

পৃথিবীর সব রূপ লেগে আছে ঘাসে; 

পৃথিবীর সব প্রেম আমাদের দু'জনার মনে; 

আকাশ ছড়ায়ে আছে শান্তি হয়ে আকাশে আকাশে।

Translation

An evening in Bengal.

Dusk descends, spreads serene silence. 

A myna fowl flies with straw in her beak in silence. 

A cattle car traverses lanes of fields very slowly. 

Golden straws fills the courtyard in heaps. 

All pigeons & doves of the world are now calling from mangrove forests. 

All the beauty of the world is now reflected from the grasses. 

All the love of the world now descends in our senses. 

The sky disperses peacefully into horizons of vast skies.
