Grass - The Poem & Translation

পুথিবী ভরে গিয়েছে এই ভোরের বেলা;

Translation

Alike tender lemon leaves with soft green halo
The earth is filled at this morning hour.
Alike tender pomelo are the grass-similar fragrances
Deers are tearing them with their teeth.
I too wish to drink this fragrance of grass in wine glasses;
To knead this grass - rub my eyes with theirs,
My eyelashes on grass's feathers;
I wish to be reborn as grass in these grass alike a typical grass;
Descending from a dark womb with a body of sweet flavors.

I'm on holiday on earth - The Poem & Translation

অন্ধকারে একা একা সমুদ্রের জলে;
এমন;
তবু আজ সবুজ ঘাসের পরে বসে থাকি; ভালোবাসি;

Translation
I ascended on this earth only for a holiday
I am an ecstatic poet.
I for once; - rinsed my body
In darkness all alone with sea water;
I loved colored sunshine on tolerant autumn
fields-on raiment of pasture.
Alike a grass-hopper I trotted-saw a teenager girl
came and plucked a yellow flower.
The wet drape on her body bore a picture of a shell
which bloomed-the dawn sky is filled with renewed clamor
of swans
With unique new expressions: pinkish ripples of river
spiels,
Yet I know that her tales never fades in fogs-as if
someone is listening all.
Some colored satin cloud settles-or perhaps no one listens,
in void dense fog.
Her all is erased; one day I too shall fade in halos of words
similarly;
Still I remain seated on green grass; love;
in hope of love.
I wait silently to listen to the footsteps; the fruits of cactus
I devour lavishly.
With all these desires; if I feel sleepy then, I go to sleep.

A Thousand Year Dances - The Poem & Translation

Translation

Thousand years have only danced alike fireflies in darkness
All over night precipitates eternally-
Moonlight on sand-hesitating shadows of cedars.
Alike a devastated pillar of Dwaraka; erect but dead, ghastly.
Our bodies smell of sleep-ended all life's bargain
"Remember?" she asked - I quietly questioned,"Banalata Sen?"

Sudarshana - The Poem & Translation

তোমার শরীর; তুমি দান করো নি তো;

Translation

With a sad smile once, I
stood besides a lady alike
you, while merging with assets and savings of eons
standing suddenly amidst ambit of fire
I heard voice of Centaur on a Himalayan cedar
I saw eternal Sun and its afterlife.

Skies, stars, grass, nights of Chrysanthemum are the best
Still time is not still;
Calling for another deeper final cast
Has witnessed your circle (aura).

Alike a soothing sunshine of this world
is your form; didn't you gift it to anyone?;
Time gifts all to you as if a widower
My beautiful; you are today no more.

O' Kite - The Poem & Translation

O' Kite - The Poem & Translation

Jibananda Das

পৃথিবীর রাঙা রাজকন্যার মতো সে যে চলে গেছে রূপ নিয়ে দূরে;

Translation

O' Kite, the Kite with golden wings, in this noon, moist and cloudy;
Please, you do not cry, cry and fly besides river Dhanshiri.
The strains of your cries remind me of her pale eyes alike cane-berry.

Alike all princesses she has gone too far with all her elegance.
Why remind me again of her?
Who ahoy loves to dig one's own heart to awake pains

O' Kite, the Kite with golden wings, in this noon moist and cloudy;
Please, you do not cry and fly besides river Dhansiri

Orange - The Poem And Translation

Orange - The Poem And Translation

By Jibananda Das

Translation

Once when after leaving the mortal form
Can I not return into this macrocosm ?
May I return again
In some dark nights of winter
With chilled flesh of a melancholy orange
Besides bed of some familiar dying human form.

Suranjana - The Poem and Translation

আছো;
পৃথিবীর বয়সিনী তুমি এক মেয়ের মতন;
কালো চোখ মেলে ওই নীলিমা দেখেছ;
ঈষৎ নিভেছে সূর্য নক্ষত্রের আলো;
তবুও সমুদ্র নীল; ঝিনুকের গায়ে আল্পনা;

Translation

Suranjana, you
still exist in this mortal universe,
bearing same age as this earth,
scanning blue horizons with black eyes,
in celebrations of Greeks, Hindus and Phoenicians,
in hearing roars that wraps grand cities
What you desired and acquired? - all are now en passe.

The civilizations have aged
So have rays of Sun and stars dimmed
Still seas are blue and oyster shells embroidered
And croon of a bird is yet pleasant
Man desires for someone-not his dead halo
Not God but fruits of his devoted ventures.

On a starlit night I remember,
with son of Dharma-Asoka,
you set sail in high seas with his last wishes.
Still, I could not make anyone perceive
that those wishes were not for creed nor for power nor for labor union,
It is strive for yet more light; is desire of a woman for mankind.

As if every dark night is a stale sailor,
alike hums of bees in vast enchanted breeze
faraway from a civilization in Mediterranean sea
resurrects a new society;-
You are the same magnificent night of sea wailing for the dead
You loved with your entire body, yet you love the dawn's delight.
