একটি পুরোনো কবিতা 

- জীবনানন্দ দাশ 

আমরা মৃত্যুর দিকে জেগে উঠে দেখি 
চারিদিকে ছায়া ভরা ভিড় 
কুলোর বাতাসে উড়ে ক্ষুদের মতন 
পেয়ে যায়- পেয়ে যায়- অণুপরমাণুর শরীর 

একটি কি দু’টি মুখ- তাদের ভিতরে 
যদিও আমি দেখিনি কোনোদিন- তবুও বাতাসে 
প্রথম গার্গীর মতো- জানকীর মতো হয়ে ক্রমে 
অবশেষে বনলতা সেন হয়ে আসে।

Translation

We all awake in direction of death 
Hordes of shadows all over, at random. 
Which blow away with winds of winnows 
Realizes- attains mortal body made up of atoms. 

One or two faces among these hazy chaperons 
Though I've never seen-yet among gusts, 
Return firstly as Gargi* then as Janki* one by one. 
And finally attain the form of Banalata Sen and resurrects.

At Long Last - অবশেষে

অবশেষে 

- জীবনানন্দ দাশ 

এখানে প্রশান্ত মনে খেলা করে উঁচু উঁচু গাছ। 
সবুজ পাতার পরে যখন নেমেছে এসে দুপুরের সূর্যের আঁচ 
নদীতে স্মরণ করে একবার পৃথিবীর সকাল বেলাকে। 
আবার বিকেল হলে অতিকায় হরিণের মতো শান্ত থাকে। 
এই সব গাছুগুলো, যেন কোন দূর থেকে অস্পষ্ট বাতাস 
বাঘের ঘ্রাণের মতো হৃদয়ে জাগায়ে যায় ত্রাস; 
চেয়ে দেখ ইহাদের পরস্পর নীলিম বিন্যাস 
নড়ে উঠে ত্রস্ততায় আধো নীল আকাশের বুকে 
হরিণের মতো দ্রুত ঠ্যাঙের তুরুকে 
অন্তর্হিত হয়ে যেতে পারে তারা বটে: 
একজোটে কাজ করে মানুষেরা যে রকম ভোটের ব্যালটে; 
তবুও বাঘিনী হয়ে বাতাসকে আলিঙ্গন করে– 
সাগরের বালি আর রাত্রির নক্ষত্রের তরে।

Translation

Tall trees play in peaceful mind here 
As mid-day sun's warmth touches the green leaves 
Once they are reminded of cold dawns on earth in river. 
Again in afternoons they remain patient as mammoth deers 
All these trees;__ as if from afar some hazy air 
Raises terror in heart alike scent of a tiger. 
Look around - their blueish fusion 
Shivers in terror; __ in heart of faint blue horizon. 
They may jump alike a speedy deer 
In horizons they may also disappear. 
Alike men who in ballots of votes work together 
Yet as a tigress they embrace the airs. 
Among oceanic sands and nocturnal stars.
